Inter Milan Advance on Deal to Sign Chalobah
Inter Want Chalobah — And It’s the Perfect Move for Everyone
Como’s latest bid is dead, Chelsea are holding firm at €35m, and the Serie A champions are circling. Here’s why this one just makes sense.
Trevoh Chalobah’s Chelsea story is winding down, and the ending is starting to look like a good one. Inter Milan want him, they want him as a first-team centre-back, and there isn’t a version of this that leaves anyone worse off.
Como out, Inter in
Como pushed first. Cesc Fàbregas’ side, fresh off an improbable charge into the Champions League, have already had a second bid knocked back — worth €28m plus €2m in add-ons, so €30m all in. Chelsea’s line hasn’t shifted: they want €35m, full stop, and with two years still on Chalobah’s deal they’re under no pressure to blink.

That’s where it gets interesting. Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter are now working on the deal, that Chalobah is totally open to it, and that his representatives have been in Milan thrashing out personal terms. This is no longer Como’s race to lose.

Como have been in the race for weeks but Inter are on it as well, as revealed in June.

Alfredo Pedullà and Luca Cerchione have both reported the Nerazzurri accelerating from the Italian end — the momentum is unmistakably shifting toward the San Siro.

This is a starting role
Here’s the part that actually matters for Chalobah. Inter aren’t shopping for a squad body — they see him as a genuine first-team centre-back, part of a defensive refresh under Cristian Chivu with Francesco Acerbi in the twilight of his career. He’d walk into a back line defending a Scudetto and playing Champions League football every midweek.
Set that against his reality at Stamford Bridge. Under Xabi Alonso, Chalobah is nobody’s first name on the teamsheet. He’s versatile and dependable — but he’s an option, not a certainty. For a 26-year-old who forced his way into England’s World Cup squad, being an option isn’t enough anymore.
The interest is nothing new
And don’t file this under panic move. Italian clubs have circled Chalobah for years — Inter enquired last season, and he was offered around Milan before that. The admiration is long-standing and, crucially, mutual: Chalobah wants Italy, and Inter have wanted a defender of exactly his profile for a while. When a link simmers this long, it usually means something real underneath it.
Why it’s the perfect club for him
Let’s be honest about it, because we always are here. Chelsea finished 10th and have no European football next season. Inter offer the Champions League, a title-winning dressing room, and the guaranteed minutes he’ll never be promised at Cobham. If Chalobah wants to test himself at the top level — and at 26, in a World Cup year, he should — this is the move. It’s the perfect club for him, and dressing it up any other way would be Chelsea-tinted nonsense.
The business for Chelsea
For Chelsea, the maths is clean. Chalobah is a Cobham academy graduate, so almost every penny of a sale drops straight to the bottom line as pure profit for PSR purposes. Bank €35m, reinvest it, and thank him for his service. The only mistake would be caving to €30m with both Inter and Como in the room — competition is precisely the leverage that drags a fee up to €35m and beyond. Hold the line.
Chalobah to Inter is that rare deal that works for everyone — as long as Chelsea don’t sell themselves short.
